Mr. Clarke was born in a poor family. He was in school for only two years. When he was sixteen he left the poor mountain village and walked to the capital. He had worked in a garden, in a workplace. When he reached the biggest city in the country, nobody gave him any work. He had to beg(乞討)in the street.
One day he was looking for some food when a bag fell off a motorbike. But the rider didn’t find it and left quickly. He picked it up and found there was plenty of money in it. There was nobody except him there. He sat by the road and waited for the loser. About half an hour later an old man came back by motorbike and looked for something. The young man returned the bag to him. The old man thanked him very much and told him to work in his shop.
Mr. Clarke worked hard and watched everything carefully. He learned a lot. With the old man’s help, he had a shop. He never fooled anybody and was friendly to the shoppers. And people liked to do the shopping in his shop. Of course he got a lot of money. Now he had several shops, a beautiful house, a few cars and other valuable( 值 錢 的 )things. He went to his village and brought his parents, wife and children to the city. How happy they were all when they moved into the beautiful house!
Before Mike, their thirteen-year-old son, went to a middle school, Mrs Clarke said, “Try to be modest(謙虛的), son. Don’t tell anybody that we’re rich.” “OK, mummy,” answered the boy.
That morning the teacher told his students to write a composition “My Family”. Mike remembered what his mother had said. So he wrote, “My family is large. Here’re thirteen people in my family. They are my grandpa, grandma, father, mother, sister, two cooks, two drivers, three servants(傭人)and I. My family is poor. Our cooks, drivers and servants are all poor!”

Do you know how to play a game called “Musical Chairs”? It is easy to play and most people enjoy it. All you need are some chairs, some people and some way of making music. You may use a piano or any other musical instrument(音樂樂器), if someone can play it. You may use a tape recorder. You can even use a radio.
Put the chairs in a line. The chairs may be put in twos, back to back. A better way is to have the chairs in one row with each chair facing in the opposite direction to the chair next to it.
The game is easy. When the music starts, the players walk round the chairs. Everyone goes in the same direction, of course, they should walk in time to the music. If the music is fast they should walk quickly. If the music is slow, they should walk slowly.
The person playing music cannot see the people in the game. When the music stops, the players try to sit on the chairs. If a person cannot find a chair to sit on, he drops out. Then, before the music starts again, one chair must be taken away. When the music stops again, one more player will be out.
At last, there will be two players and one chair. The one who sits on the chair when the music stops is the winner.

Most children don't enjoy doing housework. They like playing computer games rather than(而不是) cleaning the rooms. But in Australia, Jim and Robert's mother, Mrs. Black, has good ideas to get their children to do housework.
Here is an example.
“Mom, have you worked out next week's housework? Let Jim and me choose the cards. I can't wait. It's fun!”
When Robert shouted out, his mother had already put all the cards on their big table. On the cards, there are some words like these, “sweep the floor, clean your bedroom, help mom cook, wash vegetables, make beds, feed the fish, clean the bathroom” and many others. Jim and Robert chose two cards for each day from Monday to Friday. Then they would hang them on the weekday task board. Jim likes to clean the bathroom, so he picked up the card “clean the bathroom”. Robert loves to make the bed, so he picked up his favorite card. Jim again picked up “wash vegetables” and Robert chose “feed the fish”. Soon the two boys were happy to take away all the cards.
To help the children do housework, their mother thought hard and came up with this idea. Of course, the parents did the housework on the weekends and left Jim and Robert two days free.
