The world is not only hungry, it will also be thirsty for water. About 97% of water on the earth is sea water, or salty(咸的) water. Man can only drink or use the other 3% of the fresh water(淡水) which comes from rivers, lakes and underground.
The sea is very big. Look at the map of the world, there is more sea than land. It covers(覆蓋) quarters of the earth, it looks very beautiful when the sun is shinning on it. But it can be terrible when there is a strong wind. Some parts of the sea are very deep. There is one place near Japan. It's nearly 11 kilometers high. If we put that mountain into the sea at that place, there would be 2 kilometers of water above it!
The sea is salty. There is one "sea" called the Dead Sea. The Dead Sea is not a sea. It's a big lake in the Jordan Valley. It's the saltiest. It's near the city of Jericho. It's about 80.kilometres long, between 4.8 and 17.7 kilometers wide. The river Jordan runs into the Dead Sea. The sun is not there and the water is salty. Fish can't live in the Dead Sea and plants can't grow near it. People can't swim well in the Dead Sea, but they can float(漂浮) on the water. The water is very blue and the air is clean. Do students in your country go directly to university or college after school or do they have a break first? Taking a gap year (空檔年)between high school and university is quite common in the UK, and there are lots of different ways to spend your time.
A gap year is a period of time, usually a year, when a student takes a break before going on to study in university. It is often spent traveling or working.
People used to think that taking a gap year was not acceptable. In the past you took a gap year if you had to retake exams or had problems with your study. But now, universities encourage a gap, and it is more possible for a student who takes a gap year to be offered jobs when they graduate. A gap year can give young people useful learning experiences, help them pick up new skills.
A student often takes a gap year at about eighteen years old, before going to university. It can also be taken at a different time.
Many gap year students choose to do voluntary work. Others want to travel around the world for more experiences. Lots of gap year students just want to see more of the world.
Most students who are planning a gap year take on a part-time job to save up for the trip. Some students travel for three or six months and then work for the rest of the year.

Millvina Dean, Titanic’s last survivor, died on May 31, 2009 in Southampton. She was 97 and had been in poor health for several weeks.
The youngest of the ship’s 705 survivors, Ms. Dean was only 9 weeks old when the Titanic hit an iceberg (冰山) on the night of April 14, 1912. She survived with her mother and her 2-year-old brother. Mr. Dean, 29, was taking his family to a new life in Kansas City. He planned to run a tobacconist’s (煙草商) shop there. He was among more than 1,500 passengers and crew members who died in the sinking.
Ms. Dean never married and spent her working life in Southampton. For many years after the sinking, she never spoke of it to people she met or worked with, partly because she remembered nothing about it and partly because she did not want to be seen as drawing attention to herself.
But that changed after Sep. 1, 1985 when the wreck (殘骸) of the Titanic was discovered. That set off a wave of interest in the ship, especially after the movie Titanic. “They found the wreck and after they found the wreck, they found me,” she said.
In the last 20 years of her life, she went to gatherings in the USA, Canada and a number of European countries to take part in events related to the sinking. She said she had learned from her mother about what happened during the sinking.
