Dear Jane,

Good news! We have a new flat! How happy I am!

There are more rooms here than in our old flat. My father says we will buy a garage(車庫).

He has no place to park his car now.

I'm very happy because I have my own bedroom. I also have my own study now. In the old flat, I shared one with my parents. The study is my favourite place in our flat. I can read, draw, listen to the radio and CDs there. I can also play computer games and send e-mails to my friends there.

I like the kitchen too. I love helping my mother cook meals. She often teaches me to cook different kinds of traditional foods. She was born in Sichuan, and she can cook much Sichuan food. It's very hot, but it's very delicious!

Write soon and tell me something about your home.

閱讀下列短文,根據(jù)短文內(nèi)容填寫表格,每空限填一詞。

Two days ago, I had taken a test in Biology, and I knew that I would get my scores in the same class today.

After the bell rang, every student sat in his or her seat impatiently. Then, one by one, the teacher called our names.

As each paper was given back to the correct student, the front of the answer paper would always be turned to face the ground and the paper itself would be slightly folded (折疊) to prevent anyone from seeing.

In fact, folding each test paper is a way to make sure that each student sees only his or her own scores. The scores are seen as private information not to be announced or shown to others. As a way to keep the students’ score records secret, each student is given an online account (賬號). Each student can use it to check his or her grades on the official school website.

Protecting students’ private information always comes first in US schools that want to free students from unnecessary pressure(壓力). School reports are guarded closely to prevent poor grades from damaging a student’s dignity and reputation (尊嚴和聲譽), which are for himself or herself only.

However, some insist that although students’ feelings and self-dignity are easily hurt, they cannot be forever protected. They say that school also teaches their students to make themselves stronger in mind, and the classroom should show the reality of competition in society. Scores that everyone can see might better encourage students to work harder to be better than others.

任務(wù)型閱讀

Starting a book club is easy--- all you need is to love reading. Here’s how to get yours off to a flying start.

When you set up your club, the first thing is to get members for your club. They could be friends, family or those you know through kinds of activities, but they should all love to read. A small group of seven to ten people is usually an ideal size for a book club. Too many people make the discussions difficult.

Once you have a group, agree on how often you want to meet-----usually club members meet monthly. Pick a date and stick with it. That way, members can plan for it. Send out emails a week before the meeting to remind(提醒) them of the meeting time. Set meeting time length. An hour is a good start. Two hours usually does the trick.

Then, you need a good place. Libraries, parks and restaurants--- all the public(公共的) places make good meeting places. For many clubs, meeting at home works best because you don’t have to get dressed up, and homes are quiet. If members bring a plate of food or a bottle, it can help start conversation(談話)

Please don’t forget the most important thing--- the book! Think about the books your club will enjoy. Your club can decide on books in different ways. Anyway, make sure to keep it light and fun.

After you decide all this, your book club is ready. Now, it’s time to hold the first meeting. Enjoy your reading.
