One afternoon, in Paris, Kate visited an art museum. She enjoyed seeing some great paintings in a quiet place like that. But a young man and his wife talked all the time. Kate watched them because of the noise and decided to go away.
Kate met them many times when she walked through the museum. Every time Kate heard their noise, she left quickly.
Kate was buying cards at the gate of the museum when those two people got there, too.
“He’s a brave man,” said the shopkeeper. “Most of us would give up if we were blind (失明), but he and his wife come when there’s a new art show anytime.” “But how does the man enjoy the paintings?” Kate felt very sorry and asked.
“His wife tells him about every painting.”
At that moment Kate knew what patience (耐心) and bravery are. Kate saw patience from the wife and bravery from the man. He would not let blindness change his love on art.

Nearly five years ago, and with the help by our father, my sister and I planted some cherry tomatoes(圣女果)in our back garden. Since then—for all these years—we had been allowing tomatoes to self-seed where they please. As result, the plants are growing anywhere. The fruits are small in size, but juicy and tasty. There are so many that we often share them with our neighbors. Although we allow tomato plants to grow in the same place year after year, but we have never had any disease or insect attack problems. We are growing wonderfully tomatoes at no cost!

Four years ago when I was a boy of 11, I got into the biggest trouble as a kid. It was a Saturday morning. Both my parents were out, leaving me and my 10—month—old sister became alone. Anyway, my sister was still asleep in her room. In fact I had the house to myself. I decided to do some drawing. Soon I gave up. Nothing was on TV, so I felt bored and touched the candles on the shelp…I had an idea! What would happen if I see fire to some kitchen paper Well, of course it went on fire, but it wasn’t the tiny flame(火箭)I’d expected, and I couldn’t blow it out. I threw it on the floor, and then luckily got my dad’s boots(靴子)and tamped it out.
I thought I was safe until there was a HCGE hole in my room. When my mum came home later, she smelt the smoke immediately. She dropped the shopping bag, luckily for me, over the hole. I thought this meant she would never see it. However, after running round the house checking for a fire, she of course picked up the bag and saw the hole. Next I was grounded(關禁閉)and in trouble for months. Even though, the hole was still there, reminding me of what I did.

Chip was in first grade when I arrived at his school as a counselor (輔導員). It was surprising to me that he was described as an angry, uncontrollable and evil (惹人厭的) boy. How could such a little boy, after being in school only one year, be considered "evil"? Over the next several months, I came to know Chip well enough to see that he was neither evil nor uncontrollable.
But, one day, Chip threw a chair at his teacher and was sent to my office. I asked him what made him do this. He replied that his teacher hated him. He felt there was no way to ever get her to like him. I asked him if he would tell his teacher this. He nodded, and we called her into my office.
When the teacher came, . He then said that he knew he was a very, very bad boy, and he didn't think anyone could ever like him. His teacher listened to him with heartfelt compassion. Then she gave him a big warm hug, telling him she didn't hate him at all and, in fact, she cared very much about him. Only sometimes Chip's behavior really scared her. It was clear to both Chip and me that she really meant it.
I put my left arm on his shoulders and the right hand on his heart. I told him how wonderful and lovely I saw him to be. I praised how special and brave he was to express his hurt feeling.
As I was speaking to him, his whole body came to rest on my right hand next to his heart. It was a moment in time unlike anything I had experienced before. From then on, I'm pleased to see his behavior improved through the rest of school years.
A child's mind is clear and sensitive (敏感的). He receives whatever others saw without protection. It is as easy to consider someone hopeless as it is to consider him able in his own special way.
