How do you pay for things? Do you usually use cash(金錢(qián)), or do you like to pay by credit card(信用卡)? If you are like a lot of people, you probably have at least one credit card. Also, you might use it more often than you probably should.

Credit cards first became popular in the 1920s. At that time, businesses, such as hotels and companies, gave credit cards to their best customers(顧客). Unlike today’s credit cards, customers could only use these cards at the shops or business that gave out the cards. Customers had to pay for things in full. They couldn’t pay for something a little at a time.

In 1950, a businessman named McNamara started a credit card company — Diners Club. Unlike earlier credit cards, this card could be used by customers at many restaurants. Customers liked the card because they didn’t have to carry a lot of cash with them. Restaurant owners liked the card, too. Why? They found out that customers usually spent more money when they could pay by credit card.

In its first year of business, Diners Club issued 200 card s. The customers who got the cards from Diners Club could use them at 27 different restaurants. Today, Diners Club has about 8 million customers, and they can use their cards in over 7.6 million businesses in more than 200 countries.

Nowadays, more and more schools in China make rules making students wear school uniforms to school. Parents and teachers think it will make a better learning environment at school, but some students don’t like their school uniforms. So, what are school uniforms like in other parts of the world?

In Japan, boys in middle school wear uniforms called “gakuran” and they have dark jackets with stand-up collars and pants. Girls, on the other hand, wear uniforms called “sailor fuku”, and they look like European naval(海軍) uniforms.

Most schools in England require students to wear school uniforms. Boys need to wear long grey or black pants, white shirts and school ties. Girls have the same clothes as boys, but they can wear skirts or summer school dresses during the summer term.

In the UK, uniforms were the custom(習(xí)慣) throughout most of the 20th Century, but now more and more public schools stop requiring students to wear uniforms. They think uniforms make students lose their personalities(個(gè)性).

For children in many African countries, school uniforms can be a kind of pride, or a huge financial burden(經(jīng)濟(jì)負(fù)擔(dān)). Many children have only one uniform, and that may be all the clothes they have.

In a word, love it or hate it, school uniform is a part of growing up for children around the world so you’d better enjoy your school uniform and your school life.

根據(jù)短文內(nèi)容,判斷下列句子正(T)誤(F)。

1. The author(作者) introduces school uniforms of different countries to prove(證明) that the school uniforms are very popular at school.

2. In Japan, teenagers all wear uniforms and they look like European naval uniforms.

3. Neither Chinese students nor students in other countries like their school uniforms.

4. In England all the school stop requiring students to wear uniforms because they think uniforms make students lose their personalities.
