Welcome to England! The weather of England is very changeable. It can be rainy, sunny, cloudy, windy, warm, foggy or cold at any time of year. If it’s raining when you get up in the morning, it can be hot and dry by the afternoon. The west of England is wetter than the east, and the north is cooler than the south. Just be ready for any kind of weather.

In England, shops are usually open from 9:00 in the morning to 5:30 in the afternoon. On Sundays some shops are open from 10:00 to 4:00. But a lot of shops are closed. Banks, museums or other places are open from 10:00 to 5:00. You can go to the parks at any time.

All the cities have buses, trains and taxis. People wait in line for buses and they are unhappy if you push in at the front. Don’t forget this, traffic goes on the left. Be careful!

We may know that there are four basic stages (階段) that human beings pass through when they enter and live in a new culture. This process is the way our brain and our personality react to(對……做出反應) the strange new things we meet with when we move from one culture to another.

Culture begins with the “honeymoon (蜜月) stage”. This is the time when we first arrive in which everything about the new culture is strange and exciting. This stage can last for quite a long time because we feel we are very excited.

Unluckily, the second stage can be more difficult. After we have got used to our new life, we can become very tired and begin to miss our homeland and our family, friends, pets.

The third stage is called the “adjustment(調整) stage”. This is when you begin to realize that things are not so bad in the host culture. You realize that you are becoming stronger by learning to take care of yourself in the new place.

The fourth stage can be called “at ease at last”. Now you feel quite comfortable in your new place. You can deal with most problems that you have.

There is a fifth stage of culture shock which many people don’t know about. This is called “reverse(逆向) culture shock（沖擊）” . When you go back to your own culture, you find you have changed and things there have changed. Now you feel a little uncomfortable back home.
