Raising chickens seems a difficult task for teenagers. Gracie Goodpasture, from Virginia, US, not only raises them, but also tries to breed (喂養(yǎng)) the “perfect chicken”. And she even won an award for her love of science.
Gracie started breeding chickens in her third grade at Steward School. At first, she worked on some farms for her school project. But later, the 14-year-old started to have some ideas of her own.
“Some have thicker eggshells (蛋殼),and they’re hearty (健壯的) throughout the winter,” said Grade.
Since then, the young science lover started to try to find the healthiest free-range (散養(yǎng)) chickens. And she ended up breeding a type that now bears her name.
The National Science Teachers Association (NSTA) gave the 2015 Angela Award to Gracie Goodpasture. Her interests don’t end with chickens and eggs. She is also into building robots and testing preservatives (防腐劑) in fast foods. In her words, she wants to go to Virginia Tech for poultry (家禽) sciences in the future.

2.In which grade did Gracie start breeding chickens?
3.What did Gracie find about some chickens’ eggshells?
4.When did NSTA give the Angela Award to Gracie?
5.Why does Gracie want to go to Virginia Tech in the future?

Answer the questions according to the passage.
Years ago, if a teenager had some problems in his or her daily life, he or she might write them in the diary (日記). However, now a teenager with the same problems might go online and write them in the blog (博客). In many ways, a diary and a blog are almost the same. They both tell what happened to the writer that day. So what makes a blog different from a diary?
The biggest difference is that a blog is the one much more people can read than a diary. When I was at my sister’s age, I wrote about the same things, but in my diary. And I would put my diary in a safe place because I was afraid that others might read it.
Now teenagers choose to write in blogs because they know their friends will read what they write. If my sister writes in her blog “Nobody cares about me”, her best friends will quickly read and tell her how much they like her.
If people are caring about what they write, blogs are a very good way to write about the everyday life. However, I still like the old diary better.

We have four chickens: Peanut, Cookie, Ice-cream and Potato. My husband Andrew made a beautiful coop(籠子)for them together with our kids.
He gave some tools to the kids because he believed it was important that they could really make something. Then, he slowly helped them. The kids made the mistakes of learning一a board cut too short and hands cut by knives一but in the end, Andrew did some tricks and the coop looked perfect.
The chickens love their perfectly imperfect home and we like to let them run around the yard freely. Yesterday, we needed to go to the city center, knowing that the chickens won't go very far. When we got back, my son, Gordon, ran to check on them. There were Peanut, Cookie and Potato, looking a mess. Ice-cream was nowhere to be seen.
We searched around the yard and found lots of feathers(羽毛). By this time, Gordon's eyes got watery. Ice-cream was his favorite chicken.
Andrew picked Gordon up and held him in his arms. As we stood there, accepting that we were now a three-chicken family, we heard it一a soft clucking sound. Andrew put Gordon down and they looked under the bush. There was Ice-cream, a half-naked(半裸的)chicken. She looked strange, but she was totally fine. Andrew carefully picked her up and returned her to the coop.
The next day, Andrew had a meeting with the kids. The kids believed that the chickens should stay in the coop, safe from everything that may hurt them. Andrew disagreed. He believed that we should be more careful, letting the chickens out when we were in the yard. He encourages our kids to take risks. He sees that the risk of living life一by having the freedom to walk around the yard一is better than the safety of a coop.

2.Which of the following facts show that Andrew is a wise father?
a. He taught the kids to make a coop through mistakes.
b. He held his son in his arms when the boy was worried.
c. He carefully returned the chicken to the coop.
d. He encouraged his kids to take risks in life.
A.a, b B.b, c C.c, d D.a,d
3.What will most probably happen after the accident?
A.The family will send the four chickens to the nature.
B.The chickens will be kept in the coop from any danger.
C.Gordon will stay with Ice-cream all day to keep it safe.
D.The chickens will run freely when the family are around.
4.What can be the best title of this passage?
A.A Father and A Coop B.Life is Full of Risks
C.Chickens Provide Life Lessons D.Gordon's Favorite Chicken
