When friends come to visit us in the evening, they spend their time telling us they are in a hurry and looking at their watches. It isn’t that our friends are all very busy, it is just that we don’t have a television. People think that we are strange. “But what do you do in the evening?” they are always asking. The answer is very simple. My wife and I have something that we’re interested in. We certainly don’t spend our evenings looking at the walls. My wife enjoys cooking and painting and often goes to evening classes in foreign languages. This is very useful because we often go to other countries for our holidays. I collect stamps and I am always busy with my collection. Both of us enjoy listening to the music and playing cards together.
Sometimes there’s no electricity in the house. This does not worry us as we just light candles and go on with what we were doing before. Our friends are lost --- no television! So they don’t know what to do. On such evenings our house is very full because they all come to us. There are many colors in nature. But do you know if a color has weight? I think you’ll say “no”. But I am afraid you are wrong. If you don’t believe, you may do a small experiment.
First, put two objects with the same weight into two boxes. Then cover the box. Third, wrap one box with a red piece of paper, the other with a white piece of paper. OK. Now hold the boxes with your hand one by one. It is certain that you will think the red one is a little heavier.
Why do you think so? A scientist found that different colors have different weight in a man’s mind. So he did many tests and at last he got the result. That is to say, every color has its own weight in our mind and their order is the same. The heaviest color is red, then blue, green, orange, yellow and white.
The scientist told us that colors also have smell. Can you smell the color? Of course not. Then why did the scientist say so? That is because every color stands for a kind of light with a certain wavelength. It reaches our brain through sense organs.
According to this discovery, scientists say that people accept the colors they like, and refuse the colors they hate. So your body and mind will be healthy by using the colors you like. Or you’ll be nervous or even get ill. For example, if you stay in a room with red windows, wallpapers and furniture for two hours, you’ll feel you have been there for four hours. But if the room is blue,  you’ll feel you have been there for only an hour. Another example, if a person walks out of a red room and into a blue room, his temperature will fall. That means our body temperature will change with different colors.
小題1:The purpose of the second paragraph is to tell us ___________.

B.a(chǎn) color has weight in one’s mind

小題2:Why did the scientist say colors have smell?
A.Because people can sense the light from colors.
B.Because we can smell colors with our nose.
C.Because every color has its own sweet smell.
D.Because every color can give off light of the same length.
小題3:It can be implied from the text that ___________.
A.colors have orders in weight
B.colors can change the weight of an object
C.people would stay longer in a room with red windows
D.colors can affect our mood and health
小題4:This passage is probably a ___________.

"The word "sport" first meant something that people did in their free time. Later it often meant hunting wild animals and birds. About a hundred years ago the word was first used for organized games. This is the usual meaning of the word today. People spend a lot of time playing football, basketball, tennis and many other sports. Such people play because they leant to. A few people are paid for sport they play. These people are called professional sportsmen. They may be sportsmen for only a few years, but during that time the best ones can earn a lot of money. For example, a professional football player in England earns more than 300,000 dollars a year. The stars earn a lot more. International golf and tennis champions can make more than 500,000 dollars a year. Of course, only a few sportsmen can earn as much as that.
Perhaps the most surprising thing about sportsmen and money is that the stars can earn more money from advertising than from sports. An advertisement for sports equipment does not simply mean, "Buy our things". It says, "Buy the same shirt and shoes as…". Famous sportsmen can even advertise things like watches and food. They allow the companies to use their names or a photo of them and they are paid for this. Sport is no longer just something for people's spare time.
