Kazuo Ishiguro | International Writer 2017 NOBEL PRIZE IN LITERATURE He has an Asian face. He writes in English. And he writes stories happening in different places across the world. Kazuo Ishiguro ( 石墨一雄), a Japanese --born English writer, won the 2017 Nobel Prize in Literature because his novels remind us of how international the world is . In his first book, A Pale view of Hills, Ishiguro tells a story of a middle aged Japanese woman living alone in England. But then he went much further. When We were orphans sets the story in Shanghai. The Remains of the day tells an English butler (管家) recalling his days during the World War II. Of course, he has many other excellent books. |
