Wiki is the Hawaiian(夏威夷語) word for “quick”. Today, it is a very popular word among Internet users. What does it mean? Wiki(維基) is a wedsite where everyone can create(創(chuàng)建) and chage its pages. The most famous wiki is Wikipedia, an online encyclopedia (百科全書) that offers millions of articles. But there are lots of other wikis such as Wikihow, Wikinews and Wiktionary. They all have one thing in common. They are created and managed by a wiki community(社區(qū)).
A wiki community is made up of the millions of people who visit a wike site. Many of the visitors are readers looking for information. Some visitors are _____ who creat articles for the site. Other visitors act as editors (編輯) who read the articles and check them for mistakes. Wiki are simple to creat and use, and they are becoming more and more popular.
But is wiki information reliable? If any one can add, delete or change information, can the information be trused? This depends on the wiki community. The community usually tries to make sure that the information on a topic is correct. If someone in the community sees an article with incorrect information, that person can edit or change it.
On a big wiki like Wikipedia, thousands of pages change every day. At certain times of the day there can be 50 or more pages changing every minute! Sometimes the changes may be as simple as spelling mistakes. Other times they are changes, additions or deletions to the content(內(nèi)容).
A wiki gives the community a way to get information together and change it as things change. Wikis are greatly changing the way we get information. Do you want to find an interesting quote(語錄) to use in a writing project or report? Go to Wikiquote. Do you want to learn the most recent information about a place you’re planning to visit? Try Wikitravel.

When I was a kid, I was taught that animals knew everything the moment they were born. Today, it’s known that many animals learn important skills from their parents (usually their mothers).
Like humans, the first “food” other baby mammals(哺乳動物) get is their mothers’ milk. After a period of weeks or months, it’s time to eat meat. At first, adult animals like wolves bring back killed animals, so babies can eat easily. As babies grow older, their mothers bring back wounded animals, so the young can improve their killing skills. At last, the young go out with their mothers to watch and take part in the hunt.
Sea lions catch fish and let them go in front of their young. They repeat this many times until the young learn how to catch fish by themselves.
Baby orangutans(猩猩) stay with their mothers for eight years. Mothers teach their young what foods to eat and where to find them depending on the season of the year. There’s a lot to learn because orangutans eat leaves, flowers, different kinds of insects and lots of fruits.
Baby elephants don’t know how to use their trunks(象鼻子) right after birth. At first, they just swing them around and sometimes they even step on them. By watching their mothers, they gradually learn how to use their trunks to feed, bathe and cool themselves.
