Sometimes people come into your life and you know that they are there to teach you a lesson, or to help you understand who you are or who you want to become.

You never know these people who may be a classmate, a neighbour or a friend—but when you lock your eyes on them, you know at that very moment they will influence your life in some ways.

Sometimes things that happen to you may seem unpleasant, painful, or frustrating at first. But in another way, you find that without getting over those difficulties you would have never realized your ability, strength or will power(意志力).

The people you meet and the success you get help to create who you are and who you become. Even the bad experience can be learned from. In fact, they are sometimes the most important ones.

If someone loves you, give love back to them in the way you can, not only because they love you, but because in a way, they are teaching you to love and how to open your heart and eyes to things.

If someone hurts you, or breaks your heart, forgive(原諒) them, for they have helped you learn about truth and the importance of being careful of people around.

Self-confidence is necessary to a person. If you’re not confident, it will be hard for others to believe in you.

Learn a lesson in life each day you live!

We all dream about things that we would like to do and things we hope to achieve in the future. But are everybody's dreams the same? Here are some of the findings of a survey about hopes and dreams, and thousands of students across China took part in it.

What are the hopes of teenagers?

We received several different answers to the question:What would you like to do after finishing your education? It seems some students would like to start work as soon as possible, so that they can help provide better lives for their parents. Other students hope to continue studying after finishing school and to go to university. Although money is important, many teenagers said they want to do jobs they enjoy. Teenagers have all kinds of dreams. Some are more realistic(現(xiàn)實(shí)的) than others. For example, many students said they would like to be volunteers if Beijing could hold the World Cup, maybe working as translators or tour guides. And quite a few said they dream of going to the moon one day. According to the survey, less realistic dreams are also common, but many students reported that they were willing to work hard to achieve their dreams. Quite a few dream of becoming famous, perhaps famous sports people or singers. Some said they’d like to go on exciting trips; one student said she’d love to sail across the Pacific Ocean. Why do you think people who live in some hot countries eat very spicy(辛辣的)food? Is it because the spices make the food taste better? Is it just because their parents and grandparents and great-grandparents liked hot food,or is there some connection between spices and healthy food? Researchers from Cornell University think that it is because spice plants have some important chemicals. These chemicals can kill bacteria(細(xì)菌)which spoil(變質(zhì))food.

“Most common spices can kill 75 to 100 percent of the bacteria in food,” explains one of the scientists. The bacteria grow more easily and spoil food more quickly at higher temperatures. For this reason, it is more difficult to keep food from spoiling in hot climates.

Do you like your food spicy? Your answer probably tells something about the country you come from. If you like spicy food, it is possible that hundreds of years ago, when there were no fridges, people in your country started using spices to keep the food from spoiling. The traditional spicy dishes helped those people to live longer, healthier lives. Today, in a time of fridges, the spices just make the food taste good.
