Before you cut off the tags(標(biāo)簽)and put on your newest clothing, you may want to make a stop at the washing machine. Although new clothing may look clean and fresh, it could actually be bad for your health.

According to Donald Belstio, MD, a professor at Columbia University Medical Center, new clothes do cause some risks of health problems when they are worn without washing. For starters, in an interview with the Wall Street Journal, Dr. Belstio explained that dyes(染料)found on new clothes can hurt the skin. Pre-washing of new clothes will prevent any dyes from doing bad to our skin or other things, like chairs, as New York City doctor Hilary Baldwin, MD, told Real Simple. But there's more.

Dr Belstio also warns that lice(虱子)can come to you from clothing tried on the store dressing room, and there are certain illnesses that can be passed along through clothing. Dr Baldwin advises people that it's especially critical to pre-wash pieces like underpants and swimsuits. You may not want to imagine this, but maybe you're not the first person to try on that new clothing一perhaps it's been tried on in the dressing room, and that's just the first of many cases of possible skin contact. Another point is that your clothing came into contact with many people during the producing, shipping, and selling processes. "There's just no real way of knowing how many hands or other body parts have touched your clothing," Dr Belstio warns "Washing your new clothes is a very smart thing to do," Dr Belsotio said. "I've seen examples of some strange things, so I don't take any chances."

To wash new clothes, simply put them in very hot water (if they can stand that temperature一check the tag first), and hang them to dry. While you prepare your new clothes for their first fashion show, here are other common laundry(洗衣)mistakes you want to avoid.

1.What does the underlined word "critical" in Paragraph 3 mean?

B. We should wash new clothes before wearing them.

C. We should try to avoid illnesses caused by clothes.

D. We should put new clothes in hot water when washing.

3.What would the text talk about next?

A. Why new clothes should be washed.

B. When we should wash new clothes.

C. How we can avoid buying ditty clothes.

D. What mistakes we make widen washing clothes

Have you ever wished you could read someone’s mind? Well, you can, just by picking up some messages their bodies give you.

How can you tell if a friend is lying to you? They’ll often start becoming red in their faces, because they know they’re not telling the truth. They’ll probably look away while they’re talking. That’s because our eyes can “tell” what we’re thinking about.

Boys usually look at the ground when they’re lying, while girls look at the ceiling(天花板). If they put a hand over their mouths, it’s another sign that they’re lying. It is as if they’re trying to cover up the lie.

Imagine you’re asking your teacher for a few more days to finish your homework. As you talk, she starts rubbing her ear. This is a sign that she doesn’t want to listen to what you’re saying.

We use folded arms to protect ourselves when we don’t feel good. So, if you’re making a point in a discussion, and the others fold their arms, you’d better give up! They don’t agree with you—even if they say they agree with you.

1.How can you read someone’s mind according to the passage?

A. By reading their diaries.

B. By picking up some messages that their bodies send.

C. By watching their faces.

D. By reading the messages that they write.

2.What does a boy usually do when he is not telling the truth?

A. He looks at the ground. B. He looks at the ceiling.

C. He raises his head. D. He closes his eyes.

3.What do the underlined words “rub one’s ear” probably mean?

A. It means “I want to listen to you carefully”.

B. It means “I agree with you”.

C. It means “I don’t want to listen to you”.

D. It means “I can’t hear you clearly”.

4.If you are at a meeting, what should you do when the others fold their arms?

A. Make them accept your ideas.

B. Put your hand over your mouth.

C. Fold your arms to protect yourself.

D. Give up your ideas.

5.Which of the following can be the best title for this passage?

A. Telling the truth. B. Reading others’ mind.
