Have you ever seen a person with a bad attitude? A person with a bad attitude does not speak very nicely to others. The golden rule says that if you have nothing nice to say, you should not say anything.1.The way your voice sounds when you talk is called your tone of voice(語氣). Your tone of voice tells others about your attitude. Your attitude is great when you are happy. You smile.2.You hold your head up. You make eye contact(接觸). On the other hand, you might have a bad attitude when you are angry. You frown(皺眉).3.You make trouble because you are not happy with the situation.
You are in control of how you act and how you sound. Do you know that you can say one sentence in two very different ways? Your tone of voice tells others if you have a good attitude or not. Say this sentence -I do not want to wear that, Mom.
4.Then say the same sentence with grumbling in your voice. Also, put a frown on your face. The tones will sound very different. Can you tell the difference? If you say this sentence with grumbling in your voice, you may hear your parents say,”5.“What they are really saying is that you need to change how you are speaking. They want you to follow the golden rule and speak in a kinder way.
A. You speak kindly to others.
B. Please don't take that tone with me.
C. First say it with a smile on your face.
D. This rule tells people to speak kindly to others.
E. You hang your head and step heavily.

Answer the questions.
Dear Grandma and Grandpa,
As you may have heard from my parents, I’m in China right now on a cultural exchange program. I’m enjoying my time here very much. I have made new friends here, many of whom are locals. Through my interaction(相互交流)with them, I’ve noticed some interesting cultural differences. One of the most obvious( 明 顯 的 )cultural differences is the size of food portions in restaurants. Back home in America, the food portions are usually larger than those I’ve seen in China. We’re even used to seeing super-sized dishes in some restaurants.
However, in Asia, food portions are generally not extremely large. I’m must encouraged to eat until I’m full and enjoy different kinds of food. Eating out in Asia is often a big social affair(社交活動). People here eat out a lot. There are all kinds of restaurants. And there are food stands and food carts-even on the sidewalk(人行道).
Another interesting aspect of eating out is the way food is served. Back home in America, each diner orders their own meal. When people eat out in Asia, they usually order food to share. Nearly every time I eat out with friends in China, each of us has our own bowl of rice or noodles, and we share the rest of the dishes. This is an excellent way to try new foods! One thing that makes me confused is the way people pay for food at a restaurant.
In the U.S. we often ask for separate(分開的)checks, so we each pay for our own meal. But here, if diners decide to pay separately, they typically don’t request separate checks. Instead, they give money to one person who pays the bill. People also don’t tip the server. Instead, there is often a service charge added to the bill.
I hope you are doing well. I’ll write you again!
Love, Margare

Do you like to meet new people? Do you like to talk, or are you shy? Whatever your answers are, these tips can help you.
★Have some topics ready to start a conversation.
Say something about the weather or the place you’re in. Talk about the weekend we all have something to say about .
★Make the conversation interesting
Read the latest news. Read restaurant and movie reviews. Find out about the popular music or what’s new in fashion or sports.
★Be a good listener.

★Don’t be boring.
Don’t just say, “Yes” or “No” when you answer a question. Give some interesting information, too.
★Don’t talk all the time.
Ask, “How about you?” and show you are interested in the other person, too. People love to talk about themselves!
