It seems that many young people still think that smoking is cool. There are many reasons for this, for example, films. Many actors smoke in films and this can lead the young to think that smoking can be cool. But now, top actors and actresses are refusing the movies in which they are asked to smoke. So hopefully, the "cool" factor(因素) will become much smaller.
Many young people believe that smoking makes them look cool. It’s probably true that smoking helps them look older. Doctors say that not only sugar and alcohol(酒) but also smoking is bad for your skin(皮膚). Do you really want to see wrinkles(皺紋) on your face at a young age? Do you really think that smoking will make you as cool as you think ? Do you really believe that he or she will like someone that smells like a factory? This is simply a bad idea.
Besides causing cancer(癌癥), smoking will make you ugly and sad. So, boys and girls, forget about smoking! Don’t ever start. If you are smoking, give it up as quickly as you can. Why not lead a healthy life without smoking?

I’m seventeen. I worked as a box boy at a supermarket in Los Angeles. People came to the counter (柜臺(tái)) and I put things in their bags for them and carried things to their cars. It was hard work.
While working, I wore a plate with my name on it. I once met someone I knew years ago. I remembered his name and said, “Mr. Castle, how are you?” We talked about this and that. As he left, he said, “It was nice talking to you, Brett.” I felt great, he remembered me. Then I looked down at my name plate. Oh, no. He didn’t remember me at all, he just read the name plate. I wish I had put “Irving” down on my name plate. If he’d have said, “Oh yes, Irving, how could I forget you?” I’d have been ready for him. There’s nothing personal here.
The manager and everyone else who were a step above the box boys often shouted orders. One of these was: you couldn’t accept tips(小費(fèi)). Okay, I’m outside and I put the bags in the car. For a lot of people, the natural reaction(反應(yīng))is to take a quarter and give it to me. I’d say, “I’m sorry, I can’t.” They’d get angry. When you give someone a tip, you’re sort of being polite. You take a quarter and you put it in their hand and you expect them to say, “Oh, thanks a lot.” When you say, “I’m sorry, I can’t.” they feel a little put down. They say, “No one will know.” And they put it in your pocket. You say, “I really can’t.” It gets to a point where you almost have to hurt a person physically to prevent him from tipping you. It was not in agreement with the store’s belief in being friendly. Accepting tips was a friendly thing and made the customer feel good. I just couldn’t understand the strangeness of some people’s ideas. One lady actually put a tip in my pocket, got in the car, and drove away. I was puzzled and didn’t know what to do. Should I d have had to throw the quarter at her or eaten it or something?
I decided that one year had been enough. Some people needed the job to stay alive and fed. I guess I had the means and could afford to hate it and give it up.

You know what it' s like. You’ ve just arrived in Washington D. C. after a long journey and all you really want to do is lie down and relax in your hotel room. But first you have to make a few quick notes for tomorrow's meeting, check your e-mails, and perhaps print out a few- things. And you need to make a few local telephone calls, and one call to your family.
And what do you usually get? If you want to print something, you have to go to the Reception(前臺(tái)),and when you try to use your cell phone, you find that it won't work in the U. S. A.
Well, Harmony Hotel is different. Just tell us ahead of time what you're going to need, and we'll make sure that it's waiting for you when you arrive. There will be a printer in your room if you want one, and a cell phone that really works. All you have to pay for is the calls you make.
We can also provide a room for business meetings, even a secretary to take notes. All we ask is a few days' notice.
All of our rooms are of the same high standard and we promise not to increase prices in the next twelve months. But book now, because many people are already calling to book rooms, and we'd hate to disappoint you.
