What’s the most important thing for you to have in your life?Somebody mentions(提到)hard-work, others suggest knowledge, love and luck.

If you arrange(排列)the 26 English letters alphabetically(按字母表的順序)and use numbers to represent(代表)each of them, for example, 1 for a, 2 for b, 3 for c…, you can change an English word into a number. So hard-work becomes 8+1+18+4+23+15+18+11=98.It means that 98 is its mark.(分?jǐn)?shù))Knowledge becomes 11+14+15+23+12+5+4+7+5=96 while love becomes 12+15+22+5=54, and luck becomes 12+21+3+11=47, a small mark.None of these words can give one a full mark. What about money or prayer(祈禱)?They can’t, either.

Different attitudes lead to different courses of life. Most time people hope for a better life.It is possible that one will have a change for the better after one has changed one’s attitude.

When you change your manner and became friendly towards others, you’ll meet more smiling faces towards you.In the same way, if you take a positive(積極地)attitude towards failure(失敗), you’ll find you can also get something though you lose something.

A famous study was done in a school by a professor(教授)from a university. At the start of the school year, the teachers were given the names of five children. They were told that these five were the most excellent students in the class. But the fact was that these students were only average(中等), and they were not the best students at all.Well, guess what?At the end of the year, all the five average students scored among the highest in the class.

What made these average students change so much to become top students? The only difference was the change in their teachers' attitude(態(tài)度).Because the teachers believed that these five kids were the top students, they expected more from them. And so these five average students began to believe and expect more from themselves. So they worked harder to do as well as they could.

Do you know?If you expect the best from people, they'll usually want to give you their best.A great leader said, “Treat(對(duì)待)a person just how he appears to be on the outside, and you'll make him even worse. But treat a person like he's already a success, and you'll help make him the best he can be.”

Like the true story of 7-year-old Johnny, his teacher got so angry with him that one day she said, “Johnny, you're the naughtiest boy in this class.I'm sure you'll never change.” The next year Johnny had a new teacher. And on the first day of class, she talked with Johnny after school and said, “Johnny, I've heard a lot about you!But do you know that I don't believe a word of it.” And every day after that, this new teacher treated Johnny as if he was one of the smartest students even when Johnny did naughty things.Later on, Johnny became a school leader.Because that's the power of our belief(信任)and attitude toward children.

[ ]

A.

telling the five students to work harder than ever before

A.

the professor's study

B.

the change in the professor's attitude

the teachers' hard work

the change in the teachers' attitude

(3)

Breakfast is the most important meal of the day, but many people don’t have it.Common reasons for not eating breakfast include shortage of time, not feeling hungry, traditional dislike for breakfast, and dieting(節(jié)食).

Breakfast simply means “break the fast”.You eat nothing for at least 6 to 12 hours each night.Even though you have been sleeping, you have still been burning energy. And in the morning your body needs energy for the day’s work ahead.

A good breakfast should provide up to 1/3 of your total calories(卡路里)that your body needs for the day.Generally speaking, we eat 400 less calories for breakfast than for dinner. If breakfast doesn’t interest you in the morning, try eating a lighter dinner earlier in the evening or save half your dinner for breakfast in the morning.

If you still aren’t hungry in the morning, start with something small like juice or bread or have nutritious(有營(yíng)養(yǎng)的)mid-morning snack later when you are hungry.

So, you say you’re on a diet. Some people are afraid that eating breakfast will make them hungrier during the day and they will eat more.It is true that eating breakfast is likely to make you feel hungry throughout the day. That’s because your body is working correctly.Although you may feel as if you are eating more all day long, in fact you’re probably not.

Not eating breakfast may cause you to overeat, because a fall in blood sugar often makes you feel hungry later. To make things worse, since your body is in a slowed state, it will not be able to burn those extra calories well.If you feed your body healthy snacks and meals throughout the day, you may not become hungry so easily and eat too much when you have meals.

Since breakfast is the first and most important meal of the day, your choice is important. The best breakfast foods are fruits, juice, lean meat, and grain products such as bread, rice, noodles and cereals.
