Mickey Mouse, Winnie the Pooh and Snow White…all the Disney cartoon characters (卡通人物) you’ve seen on the screen are coming to China. Shanghai Disneyland broke ground on April 8, 2011. It’s going to be open in five years. This is the second Disneyland in China. The first is in Hong Kong.

Disneyland was born in Los Angeles, California, on July 17, 1955. Now, besides two in the US, there are another three Disney parks all over the world — in Paris, Tokyo and Hong Kong. In the parks thereare different areas, such as Adventureland and Tomorrowland. If you go there, you’ll have a lot of fun. But in the past few years, because of the bad economy (經(jīng)濟(jì)), most of the parks have failed to make money. For example, last year, Hong Kong Disneyland had a loss (虧損) of 600 million yuan, according to Disney’s yearly report.

The park in Tokyo has been the only overseas (海外的) Disney Park that has been able to make money in the past few years. However, since the terrible earthquake in March, the number of visitors has been smaller and smaller.

So, what will Shanghai Disneyland do to make money?

Fan Xiping, an investor (投資方) in the project said, “There is a large population in China. Besides the old Disney characters, there will be some new and special attractions (吸引) made for Chinese people.”
