Ⅱ.閱讀理解閱讀下面的短文,然后從各題所給的四個選項中選出一個最佳選項。

You will have a lot of reading to do in this grade of year. You can do more of it in less time if you learn to read fast.

Perhaps you have been told about some habits which keep a person from reading fast and have been strongly asked to break those habits which you might have.

Do you still have any of these bad habits? Check yourself by answering “yes” or “no” to these questions.

(1 ) Do you move your lips (嘴唇) when reading silently?

(2) Do you point to words with your finger (手指) as you read?

(3) Do you move your head from side to side as you read?

(4) Do you read one word at a time?

If you answer “yes” to any of these questions, start at once to break the habit. If you move your lips ? hold your fingers over them ? or hold a piece of paper between your lips while you are reading. Then if your lips move ? you will know it and can stop them.

If you point to words ? hold the two sides of your book ? one side with your left hand ? the other side with your right hand. Then you won’t have a free finger to use in pointing while reading. If you move your head, place your chin (下巴) in one hand and hold your head still (靜止不動的) .

If you read no more than one or two words at a time, you need to work very hard in learning to take in more words at each glance (—瞥) as your eyes travel across the lines of words.

Even if you do rather fast now ? you can learn to read even faster. As you probably have been told ? the secret of fast reading is to take in whole groups of words at each glance. Read in thought groups and force (迫使) your eyes along the lines of words as fast as you can make them go. Anyone who practises doing these things will be able to read faster.

Every country has its heroes. The heroes are the people the country and especially the young people admire. If you get a list of the heroes of a country ? it will tell you the potential (潛力) of that country. Today in America,if you ask the high school students to list their heroes, their choices would probably fall into three groups. The first group of heroes would be the rock (搖滾樂) stars—the people connected with rock music. There is no doubt that such people do have talent but one wonders if one should hold up rock stars as a model. The rock stars too often are involved with drugs (毒品) and their personal life is not all that good. The rock stars are rich and wear the latest fashion styles. However ? one should look for more in a hero than such things as money and good clothes. The second type of heroes for the American young people is the sports stars. Again you have a person who has a great ability in one area—sports. However, too often the personal life of the sports stars is a bit of a mess. Drugs and drinking are usually a part of life of the sports stars. The third type of heroes is the TV or movie stars. These persons may have lots of acting talent and be quite handsome. However, the personal life of too many actors is quite sad,and they should not be held up as a model for young people. Today? the rock stars, the sports stars, and the actors all have become the models of the young people in America. Really,do you hear a young person say that his hero is a doctor,a teacher,or a scientist? These people are not rich and do not wear fashionable clothes. However ? they are talented people who work hard to make the world a better place for everyone. What is really sad is that the young try to learn from their heroes. They like to wear the same clothes and follow their styles. If the heroes of today for the American young people are limited ( P艮定) only to the rock stars, the sports stars and the actors, the future does not look too bright.
