How often do we read this story? A sports team is having a bad time, losing games one after the other. You know what nearly always happens, the manager is dismissed( 被解雇). He may be popular. He may have been successful in recent years, but a few games have been lost, so he has to go.1

They win the next game and everything becomes time again. How can one person make such a difference?

The simple answer to the question of what makes a good leader, as any football manager knows is success.

2 Until recently, the comparison between business and games wasn’t often made. But success in business and success in sports are very similar. 3 In both business and sports, you have to first know what your aims are and how you want to get there. And you need to understand your own abilities and then make the most of them.

4 . There are also important similarities in the way good managers in business and sports work with others to succeed. You need to unify ( 使成一體) the team and win their hearts. This is not the same as being popular. Most players in a team will be unhappy when a new manager turns everything upside down and changes the “normal” way of doing things. But if the manager can show that he believes in the team, they will put their unhappiness aside.5 And if the success doesn’t come, what will happen? Well, dismiss the manager, of course.

A. But these two things are not enough.

B. Yet, as if by magic, things suddenly start to change.

C. After all, both of them are about competition.

D. Managing a successful business is very different.

E. It’s very difficult to be a good football manager.

F. When success comes, all their worries disappear.

G. How to achieve it is a rather more difficult matter

He may have been successful in recent years, but a few games have been lost, so he has to go. They win the next game and everything becomes fine again.

根據(jù)In both business and sports, you have to first know what your aims are and how you want to get there. And you need to understand your own abilities and then make the most of them.

But success in business and success in sports are very similar.

根據(jù)You need to unify ( 使成一體) the team and win their hearts. 故選A。

And if the success doesn’t come, what will happen? Well, dismiss the manager, of course.

What can we do whenever Earth faces a disaster? Is the only solution running away from the planet in spaceships? The latest Chinese sci-fi (科幻) movie, The Wandering Earth, offers a different and more ambitious (有雄心的) idea.

The film is based on a short story by Chinese sci-fi writer Liu Cixin. In the film, Earth is in danger of being destroyed by the dying sun. Humans around the world work together to build a giant engine system that will push Earth away from the sun. We're taking the Earth with us to run away.

What makes The Wandering Earth different from Hollywood-style space films? It’s probably the special cultural background (背景). For many years, “homeland” has rooted (生根) in the hearts and minds of Chinese people. One old saying is luoyeguigen. It means returning to one’s homeland in old age, like fallen leaves returning to the roots of their tree. There are also many ancient poems about homeland. “The season called the White Dew begins tonight / Nowhere as in our native place is the moon so bright”. These all show that Chinese people have the tight bond (情感紐帶) with their homeland.

What is Chinese sci-fi? Guo Fan, the film’s director said, “Chinese sci-fi is a way to express our cultural and spiritual core (精神內(nèi)核). Otherwise (否則), we’re just imitating (模仿) others and telling the same American stories.” And the film was released on February 5, 2019, the first day of Chinese New Year. It was a time when many people had just made the hard journey back to their hometowns. It seems the best time to tell this Chinese sci-fi story. Anyway, to us Chinese, Earth goes wherever humans go, because it’s our home.

1Why do people consider the film so ambitious?

A.Because humans work together to build a giant engine system.

B.Because humans are trying to take the Earth to run away together.

C.Because the film story is written by the famous writer Liu Cixin.

D.Because people have managed to run away from Earth in spaceships.

2Why does the writer use the old saying and ancient poems in this passage?

A.To tell the difference between Chinese and American.

B.To remind us of China’s many years of history.

C.To teach some Chinese traditional cultures and spirits.

D.To express Chinese people’s love of their homeland.

3What does the underlined sentences mean? ____________.

4What makes The Wandering Earth different from Hollywood-style sci-fi?

A.Its fantastic pictures and settings.B.Imitating foreign sci-fi films.

5What’s the best title for the passage?

A.The Latest Chinese Sci-fi FilmB.What is Chinese Sci-fi?

The older I get, the more I learn that our quality of life doesn’t depend on what we’ve been given. Instead, our quality of life depends on what we choose to create. Every day, we are creating our life. We are choosing how to spend our time, what words to say out loud, and how to care for ourselves. And with all these choices, we are creating our life.

Creating a good life requires you to choose how you spend your time well. You should be doing things that give you pleasure or satisfaction. But first, you have to find out what it is that you enjoy doing. For example, I enjoy reading, writing, and ballroom dancing. On days when I’m able to do at least one of those activities, I feel quite good. However, if my free time is taken up by serving other people’s interests, I feel frustrated. That is why you have to guard your free time. We all have parts of our day that are spent doing things that we have to do, such as our job or schoolwork. So, our limited free time is valuable indeed. But our free time is where we have the opportunity to create our life.

As a result, the questions you should be asking yourself every day are these: What kind of day am I creating today? Will I spend my time arguing with others and feeling frustrated? Or, will I do something with my time that I truly enjoy, such as reading a book or going dancing with my friends?

We have so many beautiful choices when it comes to spending our free time. The bottom line is this: We choose what kind of life we will live; how we choose to spend our free time is in our hands. Whether we spend our time with kind or unkind people is in our hands. And the choices that we make decide the kind of life that we live. 【題目】 Girl Scouts(女童軍) gave me a way to always feel at home, no matter where I moved.

I was born in Nebraska, but my first Girl Scouts troop was in North Dakota. We then moved to Utah when I was in the third grade, and I was in Girl Scouts of Utah from third grade until I graduated from the 12th grade in 1999.

When I got to Utah, I was the new kid in school, as we moved in January, about halfway through the school year. Making friends was hard. I don’t remember how long after we moved that my mom reached out to the local Girl Scouts council and found me a troop(隊伍).

I remember that the girls in the troop welcomed me with open arms. It was nice to have friends to eat lunch and play with on the playground. My mom ended up becoming the leader of that troop, too! Girl Scouts was the connection to a new place. It was a way for me to make friends and meet people and gave me a sense of home.

After attending college in Utah, I moved to California and eventually got a job working for Angeles Girl Scout Council. I learned a lot while in Girl Scouts, including leadership skills and money management, but this has been the most useful skill that I learned: that Girl Scouts are connected to each other.

Thinking back, I first moved here with no job. I was living with my dad’s cousin and wasn’t really sure if it was going to work or if I was going to stay, but 16 years later, I’m still here—thanks in large part to the Girl Scouts.

I spent Thanksgiving with my co-workers at the Girl Scouts when I couldn’t go back home, I celebrated birthdays with them, and watched their kids grow up. I’ve learned and grown so much from the co-workers and the troop leaders that I have met through my job. Even as an adult, the Girl Scouts remain that connection and that lifeline for me—they are my extended family. That lesson is priceless!

1The author joined the Girl Scouts in Utah because ______.

A.her friends introduced her

B.it was the rule of the new school

C.her mom was the leader a Girl Scouts troop

D.it was a good way to connect to a new place

2How did the author feel when she first moved to California?

A.Frightened.B.Hopeless.C.Uncertain.D.Lonely.

3What is the most important lesson the author learned from her experience at the Girl Scouts?

A.Difficulties help us become stronger.

B.A good leader is important to a team.

C.A valuable person is one with useful skills.

D.Where you can find a sense of belonging is home.
