When you are in Hong Kong, you must be very careful in the streets, because the traffic drives on the left. It is different from that in other areas of China.
If this is the first time you have come to Hong Kong, you must look to the right side and then the left before you cross the street. If the traffic lights are red, the traffic must stop. People on foot can cross the road carefully. But if the traffic lights are green, the traffic can go. People on foot mustn’t cross.
When people go to or come back from work in the morning or evening, the streets are very busy. Traffic is the most dangerous, especially for the children.
When you go by bus in Hong Kong, you have to be careful, too. You must always remember the traffic moves on the left. Have a look first, or you will go the wrong way.

Shopping is not as simple as you may think! Much has to be done for the producers before putting the products on the shelf.
Color, for example, changes a lot according to what the producers are trying to sell. Health foods are packed in greens, yellows or browns because we think of these as healthy colors.
When some kind of medicine was brought out recently, researchers found that the color of the package(包裝) caused the shoppers to lose interest because they made the product look ineffective(無效的). At last, it came on the market in dark blue and white—blue because we think of it as safe, and white as calm.
The size of a package can also attract(吸引) a shopper, although quite often a bottle doesn’t hold as much as it appears to.
It is said that the better-known companies spend about 40 percent of the cost of the product itself on packaging!
The most successful producers know that it’s not enough to have a good product. The head of Pears Soap, who for 25 years has used pretty little girls to sell their goods, came to the conclusion: “Any fool can make soap, but it takes a talent to sell it.”

What do you do if you're stranded(處于困境的)on a lonely island? Surely you need to find a way to get in touch with the outside world. Your best chance of doing this is to draw the attention of a passing plane.
  Body signals(信號)
Pilots from different countries understand body signals if they have the correct training. When you wave your arms up and down in a straight line, it means "yes". When you point downwards and swing your arm from side to side, it means "no". If you want the pilot to know that it's safe to land, push your hands out in front of you and bend(彎曲)your knees. If you want to say that it's not safe to land, put your arms in the air and move them to one side.
  Smoke signals
The smoke from a fire can be seen from far away, so it's a good way to draw attention. If the weather is dry, it isn't hard to start a fire. Remember, however, that fires can be very dangerous if they get out of control. Never light a fire unless you're sure that it can't spread. If the ground is dark, light smoke can be seen more easily. Green grass and leaves produce light smoke.
  Ground-to-air signals
It's a good idea to build some signals, too. Use large pieces of wood to make the symbols(標(biāo)記). If you can't find any wood, use earth. Some useful symbols are:
F "I need food and water."
  II "I need medicine."
  I "I am badly hurt."
X" I am unable to move from here."
  Pilots' replies
If the pilot lowers the plane's wings from side to side, this means "message received and understood". (At night, the pilot flashes the plane's green lights.) If the pilots flies the plane in a clockwise circle, this means "message received but not understood".(At night, the pilot flashes the plane's red lights.)
However, there is no signal which means "message not received". Why not?
小題1: Which picture means "it's not safe land"?

小題2: What can we learn from the passage?
A.Swinging your arm from side to side means "yes".
B.If the ground is dark, light smoke can't be seen.
C.If you need some medicine, make a symbol "II".
D.The pilots make replies with a blue light at night.
小題3: What is the passage mainly about?
A.The explanation of building signals on an island.
B.The importance of making signals on an island.
C.Ways of sending out signals on a lonely island.
D.Ways of receiving signals from a lonely island

Some people like to get up late, but some do not. In fact, it is really good for us to get up early every day. Maybe those who don't like getting up early will not believe this, but it is true.
Scientists made a survey in about one thousand people, and then they found that early rising people had less disease than late rising people, and early rising people also looked healthier than late rising people, and so on.
So we may know early rising is helpful in more than one way. First, it helps to keep us healthy. We all need fresh air. But air is never as fresh as early in the morning. Besides, it is useful to do morning exercises.
Secondly, early rising helps us in our studies. In the morning we learn more quickly and find it easier to understand what we learn.
Thirdly, early rising can give us a plan of our work for the day. We cannot work well without a good plan.
Fourthly, early rising gives us enough time to get ready for our work^ such as to wash our hands and faces and eat our breakfast.
Late risers may find it difficult to form the habit of early rising. They have to make an effort (努力)to do so. As the English proverb says, “Early to bed and early to rise makes a man healthy, wealthy and wise?”
Judge the following sentences true (T) or false (F) according to the passage.
小題1:People don't always agree on whether to e»et up early.
小題2:   In the passage the writer gives four reasons for early rising.
小題3:   Early rising makes people happier according to the passage.
小題4:Early risers don't look as healthy as late risers.
小題5:The writer encourages people not to sleep late.
