    “A day at the shops can help you live longer,and surprisingly,the benefits (好處) are actually greater for men,says a study group from Taiwan.

The study even suggests that shopping regularly is better than going to the gym.

    The study suggests that seeing friends and just peoplewatching can stave off (抵擋） loneliness and improve psycho- logical health. It looked at about 1 ,850 people aged 65 and over living alone at home in Taiwan. These people were asked ①.

    The researchers studied how long each of these people lived by following the national death information between 1999 and 2008.

    They found those who shopped daily lived longer than those who shopped less frequently (頻繁) ,even after taking account of (把……考慮在內(nèi)) people’s physical or other health problems. By comparing them with those who didn’t shop regularly,they found that older men who often went out to the shops had the best life record,with 28% down in their chances of dying,while older women saw a bit less benefit,with a 23% cut in dying.

    The researchers said ,“ An elder ② would be at risk of poorer diet quality necessary to keep healthy. This makes

a bad cycle.Shopping less causes poor health and poor health causes less shopping."

    But the study added,u In shopping situations,communicating with or watching others can provide social and mental benefits."

   “ Compared with other types of leisure (業(yè)余時(shí)間) physical activity,like formal exercise,which usually needs motivation (動(dòng)力) and sometimes professional instruction,shopping is easier to undertake and maintain."
