In Britain you may often hear “Drop in any time” or “Come to see me soon”, but you can’t really do that. People just say those things to make you feel welcome. It is better to telephone before visiting someone at home. If you receive a written invitation to an event that says “RSVP”, you should reply to let the person who sent the invitation know whether or not you plan to go.
You should never accept an invitation unless you really plan to go. You may refuse by saying, “Thank you for inviting me, but I will not be able to come.” If, after accepting, you are unable to go, be sure to tell those who are expecting you as soon as possible that you will not be there. Although it is not necessarily expected(期望) that you give a gift to your host, it is considered(被認為) polite to do so, especially if you have been invited for a meal. Flowers, chocolate, or a small gift are all appropriate(合適的). A thank-you note or telephone call after the visit is also considered polite and is an appropriate way to express your appreciation(感謝) for the invitation.
1.What can you do when a British friend says “Drop in any time”?
A. Visit him or her at any time. B. Say “no time” to him or her seriously.

2.What does the underlined word “RSVP” probably mean in Chinese?
A. 請自便。 B. 請回復。 C. 請審閱。 D. 請來訪。
3.What should you do if your British friend sends you an invitation but you do not want to go?
A. Do not give him or her an answer.
B. Tell another friend to go instead of you.
C. Tell him or her that you can’t be there for some reason.
D. Tell him or her that you don’t want to go there.
4.Which of the following is considered impolite in Britain?
A. Buy small presents when invited. B. Refuse the invitation without telling anyone.
C. Write a thank-you note after a visit. D. Give a telephone call after a visit.
5.Where would you probably see this passage?

Ice Bucket Challenge
Have you every heard of ALS Ice Bucket Challenge? Certainly you do. It is an activity held by an American charity. It not only helps the ALS patient to get the money to treat their disease, but also makes more and more people know about the disease, so that they can give more care to the patients.
Ice Bucket Challenge became popular on social media during July-August, 2014, in the US. The organizer holds the activity to make people experience ALS patients’ pain. In the activity, people need to pour the ice water down from their heads, and then nominate another three people to take part in the challenge. Within 24 hours, they can choose to accept the challenge, or donate 100 dollars, or do the both.
ALS make people’s muscle become hard. So it is hard for the patients to move. Stephen Hocking, a famous British physicist, is one of the patients. This activity makes people know about the illness and the pain that the patients suffer. Ice Bucket Challenge is a great success, until now, a big donation has been received. I hope more and more people can take part in charity activities like ALS Bucket Challenge and do what we can to help those patients recover soon.

What is a hurricane?
You may already know that hurricanes are storms that can cause devastating(毀滅性的)waves, wind, and rain. They happen during“Hurricane Season,”which is from June 1st until November 30th in the Atlantic Ocean and from May 15th until November 30th in the Pacific Ocean.
Categories(類別)of Hurricanes
There are five categories of hurricanes, which are based on wind speeds. The categories help people know how much damage(危害)a hurricane may cause because the greater the wind speed, the more dangerous the storm is.For example,a Category 5 hurricane has winds over 155 miles per hour, which are strong enough to destroy the buildings along the shorelines completely.
Hurricane Dangers
When a hurricane happens together with heavy rainfall, there can be a devastating flood. The centre of a hurricane is called the eye. While most of a hurricane has dangerously strong winds, the eye is actually(事實上)a calm area in the storm. When the eye of a hurricane passes over land, people might think that it’s over, but before long the wind and rain increase again as the second part of the hurricane moves through.
Hurricane Safety Tips
There is no way to stop a hurricane or make it change direction,so if you ever find yourself in the path of a hurricane,be sure to remember the following safety tips.
•Be sure you have a radio, batteries, fresh drinking water, and enough food.
•Tell neighbours, friends, and family members your emergency plans.Tell them where you’ll go if you need to leave your home.
•If you live near the ocean, leave your home and travel to a safe place. You could stay with a friend or a family member,in a hotel or in an emergency shelter area.
•Stay inside during the storm. You could be seriously injured(受傷)if you go outside.
