As the teacher at the skydiving school,Ron was surprised when he saw the grey-haired man drive up to the airfield. He was more surprised when the man said that his name was Walter and asked if he could take skydiving lessons. 1. Ron explained to Walter that anyone over 50 had to be checked by a doctor before they could learn to jump from a plane.
“I'm afraid you should have thought about that before coming here,” Ron said. “I'm sorry, but I can't let you start learning without a letter from your doctor. ” Walter smiled. u Here is a letter from my doctor. 2. ”
So Walter was able to join the skydiving school. He came to all the lessons and worked very hard, although the other students were much younger than him, mostly about 30. 3. Ron asked him if he was feeling OK. Walter replied that he had never felt better. However,he added that there was something he should have told Ron earlier. Ron asked what it was and Walter smiled. Then, just before he jumped,he told Ron that he wasn’t 60. 4.
Walter's first jump from a plane was six years ago. And yesterday he made his eighteenth jump. “I should have started skydiving a long time ago!” he said.

William Shakespeare was the greatest English writer of all time. He wrote thirty-seven plays in all. His stories are almost known in every comer of the world.
William Shakespeare was bom in Stratford,a small town in England,in 1564. He decided to be an actor when he finished school at the age of fourteen. In 1582,he married the 26-year-old Anne Hathaway who was a farmer's daughter. Their first child was a daughter. Later they had twins. In 1585,Shakespeare left his hometown. Although Shakespeare is famous as a playwright,he once was an actor and poet. He usually acted in his own plays. He earned almost no money from his writing. But he made a lot of money from acting. Do you love taking photos with a camera? People who always take photos may actually be harming their memory, because they’re not concentrating on the event itself.
“People so often take out their cameras almost mindlessly (不費(fèi)心思地) to catch a moment, and they are missing what is happening right in front of them ,” said Linda Henkel, from the university. Henkel and her team decided to perform an experiment. They wanted to find out whether taking photos in a museum weakened a visitor's memory of what they had seen. So they simply told a group to look around the museum, and either take photos of the items on display,or try to remember them. The next day,the group was tested.
People who took photos in the museum were less likely to remember what they had seen. In addition, the amount of detail they remembered was worse than those who didn't take photos. “These results show how the mind's eye and the camera's eye are not the same,” said Henkel.
But don't put your camera down just yet. Other studies have found that looking back at old photos helps us remember an event, compared to just taking a photo and forgetting about it. So next time you’re thinking of taking a photo, just think: is it better to look at the beauty around you with your own eyes,or behind the eye of the camera?

Do students in your country go directly to university or college after school or have a break first? Taking a gap (間隙) year between school and university is quite common in the UK,and there are lots of different ways to spend your time.
A “gap year” is a period of time, usually an academic (學(xué)術(shù)的) year, when a student takes a break from formal education. It is often spent traveling or working.
People used to think that taking a gap year was negative (消極的) . In the past you took a gap year if you had to retake exams or had problems between finishing school and starting higher education. But now, universities positively (肯定地) encourage a gap year, and employers are happy to give jobs to students who take a gap year. A gap year can give young people useful learning experience, help them pick up new skills and make them more independent.
Young people in formal education usually take a gap year when they are about eighteen years old, before going to university. They can also be taken at a different time, for example,by someone who wants to break up their degree course or to do something different before a postgraduate (研究生) course.
Many gap year students choose to do voluntary (志愿的) work. Popular gap year activities for young people are looking for adventure. Lots of gap year students just want to see more of the world.

I had hidden the long black bag in the garage for the past two days. Tonight,in the dark,I would finally take it away. If everything went OK,it would be done by morning. But I had to be sure no one,not even my wife, saw me.
It was more difficult to get away from the party than I expected. I said that the children were tired and needed to get to bed. It was partly true. But the main reason for leaving was that I wanted to complete my plan.
First I had to get the kids to sleep. That was never easy at any time and tonight it was even more difficult. The eldest one wanted to know why we left the party early. I told him 10:30 pm was not early. As usual,I read them a bed time story, but I had to stop myself reading too quickly or they would learn my secret.
Silence finally came, and feeling like a thief in the night,I went out of the house and into the garage. Taking one end,I dragged the bag out from its hiding place and took it into the garden. I was worried that my neighbours might see me and call the police.
It was already eleven o’clock. By the light of the moon I started working, trying to make as little noise as possible. And that was not easy with a saw (鋸子) and a hammer.
After much effort,my work was finally completed. I looked down at my watch. It was exactly 4:00 am. Then I went inside to have a shower and get a few hours of sleep.
