In China, the 12th month of the lunar calendar (農(nóng)歷)is called La Yue. Chinese people celebrate a festival on the eighth day of the month. It falls on January 2 in 2020.

From this day on, people begin to get ready for the Spring Festival.

On this day, people eat the hot laba porridge. It has rice, red beans, peas, dried lotus seeds (蓮子) and different kinds of nuts. To make the porridge nice, people cook it with eight different things. Everywhere you eat the porridge, and it tastes differently.

At midnight, people begin to cook it, but the special smell won't come until the next moming.

The porridge is also called Eight Treasure( 八 寶 )porridge. The porridge is not just good for health, but a blessing (祝福)for the coming of the Spring Festival.
