lift / sadness / expected / journey / get back / cut down
【1】In the United States, people are________to shake hands when they meet for the first time.
【2】Luckily, Mr Lee gave me a________on my way to school though I got up late this morning.
【3】Some factories are closed to help________the pollution in our city.
【4】I can’t________to Beijing. The line is busy.
【5】As we set out on our new________, we shouldn’t forget where we came from.
【1】expected
【2】lift
【3】cut down
【4】get back
【5】journey
根據(jù)空格前后的單詞“are”和“to”,可聯(lián)想到be expected to do sth“應(yīng)該做某事”。
cut down減少。
故答案為get back。
文中第四題也是這樣,根據(jù)后句的The line is busy。

So you think you know your dog. But how well does your dog know you? She probably recognizes you when she sees you. But can a dog tell by simply looking at you whether you have a happy or an angry expression on your face? Researchers in Austria have taught pet dogs to know the difference.
Dogs are very mindful of sound. When dog owners shout or speak in a strong, harsh voice, dogs often act guilty and quietly move away from the area.
Recently, researchers at the University of Veterinary Medicine found that dogs can look at our faces and tell the difference between a smile and a frown(皺眉). Corsin Muller, the leader of the study, says future studies will try to show whether dogs can learn the meaning of facial expressions — for example, whether a frown shows that someone is angry. “What we can say with our study is that they can tell these ones are different. But what we cannot be sure of at this point is what exact meaning they are connecting with these different expressions.”
In the experiments, researchers found the dogs were slower to link a reward, or prize, with recognition of the angry face. This suggested that dogs had an idea people with angry faces were best avoided.
The researchers’ findings were published in the journal Current Biology. They provide the first solid evidence(證據(jù)) that humans are not the only species that can read the body language of another species.

First, a company called Lava Mae came up with the idea of mobile showers (移動(dòng)淋器) for the homeless. Now, two young Australian men have created a similar laundry service (洗衣服務(wù)), called Orange Sky, for the homeless.
Lucas and Nicholas have been volunteering at the city’s charities for several years. They came up with the idea in July, 2017. They noticed that when the organizations handed out free clothes, many homeless people took more than they needed and threw them over the next few weeks.
Then they realized that it was simply because the clothes were dirty. Though there are two places in the city that provide a free washing service, one is open only three days a week, while the other is always booked up. On the other hand, most homeless people don’t have any money to wash their clothes at a laundry. So a mobile laundry seemed to be the perfect idea.
Setting it all up was not easy. The first challenge they faced was figuring out how to fit two washing machines into the old van (廂式送貨車) they bought for their mobile laundry. Their bigger challenge was getting the city to consider them as a charity. Finally, by October 2017, Orange Sky Laundry was open!
Now they offer their services at six locations. In the last four months, Lucas and Nicholas have not only been able to help homeless people, but also attracted 120 volunteers. With their support, the young men hope to set up similar services in fifteen Australian cities by the end of 2018.
Why did they choose the name, “Orange Sky”? Because orange is their favorite color and also the title of their favorite song.
【1】Was the laundry service called Orange Sky?
