One spring afternoon, many years ago, I went to pick up my mother from work. I got there a little early so I parked the car by the roadside and waited for her.

As I looked outside the car window, I saw a little boy, around two years old, running freely on the grass as his mother _____ from a short distance(距離). The boy had a big smile on his face as if he had just been set free out of ______. The boy would then fall to the grass, ______ up quickly, even without looking back at his mother, run as ______ as he could again, still with a smile on his face, as if nothing had happened.

At that moment, I thought to myself, “Why aren’t most adults this way?” Most adults, when they fall down ,make a big deal out of it and don’t even ______ a second try for fear of failure(失敗).

However, with kids, when they fall down, they don't consider their falling down as failure, instead, they treat it as a ________experience. They try again and again until they ____. The answer must be that they have not connected “falling down” with the word “failure”. As a_____, they are not discouraged in any way, Also they _______ think to themselves that it’s quite OK to fall down and that it’s not wrong to so . In other words, they _______ themselves to make mistakes, so they remain energetic.

I was deeply impressed by the boy’s persistence and the manner in which he did.

If you think you are too shy and want to be a little bit braver, just try the following things.

Be open to others. Tell people you are shy. There is no need to hide it. When they get to know you are a shy kid, they will understand you better. This also helps you feel more comfortable in talks.

Try to smile more. When you smile , people think you are friendly and easy to talk with. Remember that other people have feelings, too; and most people will stay away from an angry-looking face.

Learn to be a good talker. If you find it hard to start a conversation, say something nice about people around you. Think about how great you feel when someone says something nice to you. Doesn’t it make you want to keep talking to that person?

Get your attention elsewhere. Think more about ways to enjoy parties or games. Don’t waste time worrying about your look or whether people like you or not. You will become relaxed and find it’s not so hard to talk with others.

Take one small step at a time. Each time when you say “Hi!” or smile at someone, say to yourself “You can make it.” Keep trying and one day you’ll never feel shy when you talk to others.
