Personal computers and Internet give people new choices about how to spend their time.
Some may use this freedom to share less time with certain friends or family members, but the new technology will also let them communicate more with those they care most about. I know this from personal experience.
Email makes it easy to work at home. I spend most weekends and evenings at home. My working hours aren’t much shorter than they once were but I spend fewer of them at the office. This lets me share more time with my young daughter than I might have if she’d been born before email became such a practical tool.
The Internet also makes it easy to share ideas with a group of friends. Say you do something fun — see a great movie perhaps and there are four or five friends who might want to hear about it. If you use a telephone to call each one, you may tire of telling the story. With email, you just write one note about your experience, at your convenience, and send it to all the friends you think might be interested. They can read your message when they have time, and read only as they want to. They can reply at their convenience, and you can read what they have to say at your convenience.
Email is also an inexpensive way to communicate with people who live far away. More than a few parents use email to communicate with their children at college every day.
We just have to keep in mind that computers and Internet offer another way of communicating. They don’t take the place of any of the ways.

In China, Double Eleven Shopping Day comes every year. And there is a similar day in the United States-Black Friday. It has been considered as the beginning of the holiday shopping season. Although it's not an official holiday, millions of workers have the day off, and many people buy things on that day. A similar day in Canada and Great Britain is called "Boxing Day".
Black Friday has become somewhat of a marketing sensation (感覺) in recent years. Since 2005, it has been the busiest shopping day of the year. To lure shoppers, retailers (零售商) usually open their doors as early as 4 a.m. and offer special sales and promotions to the shoppers that arrive early.
But why is it called Black Friday? Historians (歷史學(xué)家) believe the name started in Philadelphia in the mid-1960s. Bus drivers and police used "Black Friday" to describe the heavy traffic that would block city streets because of too many shoppers there the day after Thanksgiving.
Businesses, however, didn't like the bad influence about the "Black Friday" name. In the early 1980s, a more positive explanation (建設(shè)性的解釋) of the name began to spread. According to this explanation, Black Friday is the day when retailers finally begin to turn a profit (獲利) for the year. In accounting terms (會(huì)計(jì)行業(yè)), operating at a loss (虧本經(jīng)營(yíng)) is called being "in the red" because accountants traditionally used red ink to show negative amounts (虧本賬目). Positive amounts (盈利賬目)were usually shown in black ink. Thus, being "in the black" is a good thing because it means stores are operating at a profit (盈利經(jīng)營(yíng)).
Recently, for those who are too busy to shop on Black Friday or who just don't want to fight the crowds (人群;擁擠), the Monday following Black Friday has become known as Cyber Monday (網(wǎng)絡(luò)星期一) for the many online deals (交易).
1.On Black Friday, the Americans _________.
A.are usually busy doing shopping B.look exactly like the Canadians
C.don't have to go to work as usual D.stay at home and relax themselves
2.How do the retailers understand Black Friday now? _________.
A.It is totally different from Boxing Day B.They usually lose some money on the day
C.It never keeps them very busy D.It probably brings them more money
3.Which of the following is NOT true according to the passage? _________.
A.In accounting terms, operating at a profit is called being "in the red"
B.People used "Black Friday" to describe the heavy traffic in the mid-1960s
C.On Cyber Monday, there are many deals on the Internet
D.On Black Friday, shoppers that arrive early can get special sales and promotions
4.The writer writes this passage in order to_________.
A.introduce the development of Cyber Monday B.tell the difference between red and black
C.introduce Black Friday to the readers D.explain the meaning of Boxing Day
